A tuscan retreat
Le Stabbielline is a sympathetically restored rustic farmhouse at the head of a wooded valley in one of the most beautiful corners of Tuscany. The centuries-old stone building is attractively furnished, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is a large swimming pool surrounded by white travertine and attractive grounds with a sloping lawn with oak, olive and fruit trees.
There are walks straight from the front door, including forested tracks that will lead you to stunning views of an area known for its natural beauty. You are likely to see an array of wildlife: wild boar, deer, hare, perhaps even a badger or porcupine.
It is a 10 minute drive to Anghiari, which is recognised as “uno dei borghi piu bella d’Italia” – one of the most beautiful small towns in Italy. It is famous for a battle in 1440 that inspired a lost Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece, but above all else Anghiari has retained its soul and local character.
Nearby towns include Arezzo and Sansepolcro, which feature on the “Piero trail” – sites of the masterpieces of Renaissance painter Piero della Francesca. Easy day trips can be made to Florence, Siena, Cortona, Urbino, Gubbio, Perugia or Assisi.
